Dedication Service: September 28, 1997

by Steve Hale

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in or er to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” ( Hebrews 10:23-25)

This was an historic day in the 107 year history of this congregation. All time records for attendance were set across the board for Sunday services:

————–Old Record — New Record

Bible School —–475 —– 512

A.M. Worship—– 685 —– 726

P.M. Worship——350 —– 441*

*The afternoon dedication service was at 1:00 P.M. instead of the usual 6:00 P.M. The contribution was way over budget at $8500.

it was wonderful to see the true capacity of our new auditorium. Even though we had a record crowd, you could still seat maybe another loo people realistically. That’s great because we are going to need the room!

As we reflect on this wonderful day, Jet me share some things I gleaned from it:

Organization and Motivation — Bible classes were full as was the auditorium., The potluck meal was great, and I’ve never seen so much food. Rick Waldrop did a great job in organizing the seating and the food lines. Everyone in this mammoth crowd was fed within 30 minutes. While the services were well organized, it was there was a delicious love and informality in the way people related to one another. Sometimes, emphasis on organization stifles the feeling of togetherness, but this was not so on this day.

Reunions – Former members came from far and near. Some of our shut-ins who haven’t been able to come in months made a heroic effort to worship with us this day. it was delightful to hear the laughter, see the hugs, and listen to expressions love pass back and forth.

Visitors – We’ve never had this many people from the community in the nearly ten years I’ve been here. We had the Mayor and his wife, the City Manager and his wife, the Vice-Mayor, and other’ dignitaries. Scores of brethren from sister congregations came and shared in this great day. We had many friends from various denominations.

Worship – The singing was positively heavenly! The very personal messages from Joey and Ronnie were wonderfully worded and encouraging. I’m very grateful for the beautiful way my lessons were received. The recognitions at the end were a beautiful way of capping great day! Let’s keep climbing!
